RICS 2016 East Midlands Awards
January 15 was the last date that projects can be submitted for entry for the 2016 Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors’ (RICS) East Midland Awards.
Last year’s high-profile 2015 RICS East Midlands Awards were held at Curve with awards presented by George Clarke, architect and presenter of Channel 4’s Restoration Man and George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces. Leicester City Council entered the King Richard lll Visitor Centre which won RICS Project of the Year, putting our ‘King in The Car Park’ and Leicester city, yet again, in centre spotlight.
The RICS Awards showcase the UK’s most inspirational regional initiatives and developments in land, property, construction and the built environment. There are eight categories, each demonstrating how clients, property and construction professionals and contractors, from architects to surveyors, from planners to building services engineers cleverly collaborate to develop, regenerate and conserve the environment in which we all live, work and play.
Projects can be submitted in the following categories in 2016; Regeneration, Community Benefit, Building Conservation, Design through Innovation, Infrastructure, Tourism & Leisure, Commercial and Residential. Judges will select regional award winners for each of the categories with winners announced at regional awards ceremonies held in all 12 UK RICS regions.
As these awards are highly regarded in the property and construction sector, Smallman and Son is keen to see more Leicester-based projects back on the winners’ podium in 2016. The regeneration project we worked on with RG+P architects for Soft Touch Arts has been entered for the RICS Community Award category – fingers crossed!
The national Grand Final RICS Awards will be held in London in October 2016 when regional entries compete for the ultimate ‘Project of the Year’ accolade.
